Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with business data owners/stakeholders to understand their data, their data needs, and the business context
• Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets and transform this information into comprehensible and enlightening insights tailored for the intended audience
• Collect data from multiple sources, clean it and prepare it for operational and exploratory analysis
• Document data definitions in a data dictionary and maintain them as part of metadata management
• Set requirements for data quality, data lineage, data security, data privacy and other relevant aspects for business terms/data assets
• Work in partnership with data engineers to define requirements and standards for data pipelines and transformations, ensuring alignment with broader team requirements

What we are looking for:

• Has outstanding analytical skills—from unearthing valuable insights through querying data, to creating compelling visualizations for ease of understanding
• Has a good understanding of how data is stored in databases and the ability to write SQL code to retrieve it (querying complex datasets)
• Is proficient in analyzing large datasets in a spreadsheet program (e.g. Excel, Google Sheets) or in a programmatic analysis tool (e.g. Python with Pandas or R with dplyr)
• Has a good foundation of math and statistical knowledge, including an understanding of descriptive statistics, probability, correlation, regression (use of statistical tools such as Python, R)
• Is an excellent communicator who uses storytelling to bring insights to life and make connections on the business level
• Has experience with at least one data visualization tool (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Qlik Sense, R Shiny, Looker, SAS)
• Exposure to Data Engineering/Data Warehousing practices and tools/platforms (Azure Synapse, Databricks, Google BigQuery, Amazon Redshift, Snowflake etc.) is a plus
• Knowledge and experience with data modeling techniques and the development of conceptual, logical, and dimensional data models is a plus
• English proficiency (both written and verbal); German is a plus

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s/ Master’s degree in a technical field (e.g. Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, Mathematics, Economics etc.)
• Min 2 years of experience in a Data Analyst / Data Engineer / Business Intelligence Engineer role
